Great Progress on The Owl’s Nest

Our contractors are making great progress on The Owl’s Nest.  The framing is complete, the wrap is on, the windows and doors are being installed as well.  And, inside, the electrical and plumbing, even the HVAC is being installed.  Despite some near record snowfalls the last couple of weeks, this intrepid crew is moving right along! https://www.facebook.com/ClassyCabinsAZ/videos/1299120223482865/ https://www.facebook.com/ClassyCabinsAZ/videos/1299121283482759/...

The Owl’s Nest is about to be started!

This what our new build, The Owl’s Nest will look like.  Or close, anyway.  If you’ve been following our past builds, you’ll see right away this is a little different.  Rather than build another log-sided design, we’ve chosen a new look – “Industrial Farm House.”  With vertical siding, and a standing seam metal roof, it looks a bit like a modern take on a barn.  It will have a huge wing divided into a Kitchen area and family room area by a double sided fireplace. Get ready for Executive level Luxury in this latest Classy Cabin, with even more space, and our usual touches like custom made furnishings, a full gourmet kitchen, spacious decks, and comfortable...

Important article about vacation rental sites: Renting a vacation home online? You’ll pay more.

The Arizona Republic published a column on what’s happening in the vacation rental industry. Sites like VRBO, HomeAway and VacationRentals have added new fees which renters pay when booking through those sites. There is a bit of a controversy going on right now as these sites look to get paid by both the vacation rental owner, and the guests, for providing their services. The bottom line is this: In the name of serving their customer, the travelling public, they are charging those travelers Booking Fees.  You will have to decide if paying those fees is worth it to you, or if you would rather deal directly with the owners of vacation rental properties you want to stay in. Here’s the link:...

Nearly to the finish work now.

This is where it really gets exciting.  It’s looking like a real house on the outside now.  The chimney is about to get rocked, inside and out.  Drywall is done, and the next steps are all the interior bits – paint, doors and trim, cabinets, flooring, and showers.  Get ready!...

Moving Right Along!

Ok!  We’ve got the exterior essentially done.  Next up, the deck is going on, the house will be stained, and next week, the drywall will go in – because all the trades are done and we’ll have the inspection. Despite some rain delays, our contractor is really moving things along...

New Property In The Works!

It’s that time again. Yes, Classy Cabins AZ is now planning the newest property for our guests. If you’ve been following us, and know our properties, you know it will be something special. Similar to Bearly-A-Cabin, it will be located right next to one of our other properties. The effort necessary to secure the acre next door was a big one, but it will pay off. So many of you have large groups of travelers now, large enough to need two beautiful cabins right next door to each other, and soon that’ll be available. Keep an eye on the blog space here for more information. We’ve finished the plans and begun the task of engaging a contractor to build it. Decorative touches are filling up space at home waiting to be put up in the new cabin. Stay...

How to get the cabin you want, on the dates you need it…

…Or, how are vacation rentals different from hotels and motels, and what does it mean to me? If you haven’t been staying in vacation rental properties up till now, you probably aren’t familiar with all the ways vacation rental properties are different from Hotels and Motels.  If you’ve come this far, you have probably already decided vacation rentals are a better deal for you.  When a family or large group is traveling together, vacation rentals are usually more cost effective, offer a lot more room, are more comfortable, and allow you NOT to have to dine out for every meal. But, there are other differences as well.  Most vacation rental properties are operated by their owners.  There is seldom any kind of staff available to handle check-in and check-out for you, and you are there on your own.  Property owners have generally gone to great effort to make the accommodations better than hotels, they are very proud of them.  Vacation rental property owners seldom get to meet their guests, and so have to assess prospective guest via e-mail and phone conversations. In addition to trying to make sure the accommodations will be right for you, they are also trying to make sure they are renting to people who are responsible and won’t damage, or over-occupy the properties.  No vacation rental owner wants their guests to find themselves uncomfortable because they brought 12 people to a property that only sleeps 6 comfortably.  Nor do they want to hear from their cleaning staff they will be charged twice as much because too many people were in the property. So, when you contact a property owner,...

Summer Fire Season is upon us…

Summer, time of vacations, getaways, and chillin’. Everybody loves to get away to the cooler climate up north. But here in Northern Arizona, we’ve also got to contend with the summer fire season. This year’s fire season is expected to be quite severe. We got so little moisture due to the la nina weather pattern this past winter, everything is bone dry. If you are vacationing anywhere in the west this summer, please be careful. Here at Classy Cabins AZ, there is a no-fire rule in effect. The only fires allowed are in gas grills. Our properties are on the edge of national and state forests, and we also enforce a no-smoking rule – not just inside, but anywhere on our properties. Remember Smokey’s admonition – “Only YOU can prevent forest...

Getting down to the wire!

It’s nearly the middle of March, and though all the interior stuff takes a while and progress looks slow, a lot has been happening. As you can see here, the front deck (and the rear) are finally complete, with the staircases on.  The only thing left on the outside is exterior lighting.     Inside, the last “large” construction detail is the rail across the loft and down the stairs.  Here you can see the beginnings of it.  The posts here have been trial-fitted, and next week, the carpenter (who is a much an artist as a carpenter) will be putting in the rest of the pieces, the softening and finishing the surfaces of the rails.     The kitchen cabinets are completed now, and we’ve put some of the pulls on the doors.  These are cool – they’re cast with the footprints of bear on them….         Laying wood flooring is back-breaking work no matter how you look at it.  But, you get to use really cool tools like that pneumatic flooring nailer on the right.  We laid three times as much wood floor on this project than we ever did in the others.  And we still weren’t done.  We got the carpet company to lay the last two small rooms and hallway.     Now it’s all in, its looking GREAT!  Still a bit dusty, but remember it’s a construction site.           So, what’s left?  Beginning next week we’ll see the railing finished.  Then, the finish trades will get done starting the middle of the week: Finish Electrical – all...
